Who Said That?

question mark.jpg

Who said that?

Thus it is probable that the womb in which our Savior received the auspices of life (whence he entered into this world, as from a temple) was so consecrated and sanctified by so great a guest that she [Mary] always remained untouched by man; nor did Joseph ever cohabit with her."

OK . . . who said that?  Please, no google searches or cheating.  You have to guess!  Leave your comments below.

Since the quote stated it was "probable" it could not be Catholic, therefore it must be a Reformer. So I would guess John Calvin.

James. No wait...

Luther seems like a good guess considering what day it is tomorrow

Art,

John Piper?

No way! You've got to be kidding!

If Piper is the author of this quote, I'll eat my copy of "Desiring God!"

Calvin.

I'm pretty sure both Luther and Calvin held to the perpetual virginity of the BVM. Were there any reformers who didn't?

^ I think that all of the first & second generation Refomers held to Mary's perpetual virginity. Anyone who knows more on this, feel free to post.

That sounds pretty Vatican II. Is it something from one of the Marian dogmas?

Turretin in one of his Institutes likely the 2nd volume if I recall. I wouldn't have know this one except I recently worked through them for a personal projects .. Inspired me to study latin more .. The guy wrote sentences over 400 words in length. Its that 80/20 stuff calvin talked about definately part of the reformer's 20.

I also think I read something similar to that in the Selected Works of Fulgentius. Would it be cheating if I looked in a book?

Yeah, it's Turretin.

Promise I haven't searched, and perhaps my guess will invariably reveal that indeed I have not!

How about Joseph Smith?

Here we go: Dan Brown.

Try not to laugh, I'm going the irony route.
