For Those of You Who Love History . . . This Is Very Cool!

Coliseum.jpgWe've all seen pictures of the ruins of the Roman Coliseum--if we haven't been to Rome and seen the ruins first-hand.

Now you can see the Coliseum in 3-D!  Indeed you can see much of Rome in 3-D, just as it looked in 320 AD when Constantine was emperor.

Thanks for sharing this.
I've forwarded it on to a friend that shares a love for Roman history and he is loving it, as am I.

Definitely Awesome.

The modern city of Rome so obscures the ancient city (not that it is a bad thing) that you can hardly grasp what the Rome of old was like. Even in the Forum, which is only ancient ruins now, can you hardly grasp the ancient city fabric.

Even though I have been shown plan after plan of the ancient forum, I have never fully understood it, and the digital model is great to just 'hammer it home'.

I think though, the only thing this model lacks is the pure congestion of people that was ancient Rome. The digital model shows these open courts, bare basilicas, but you have to remember that these would have been packed with noisy throngs of people.

Great!
