The First Day in Advent--Is Your Advent Calendar Stocked and Ready?

It is that time of the year again, December 1, 2008, the first day of Advent.

That means it is time to post the picture of the original version of the "Lutheran" Advent calendar (now an annual event here @ the Riddleblog) along with the easy "how to" instructions so that you can make your very own version.

Its pretty simple, really. You make a trip to Bev-Mo, you get a sharpie and some cardboard, and a nice wood or plastic case big enough for 25 twelve oz. (or more) bottles.

Its as easy to make as counting to twenty-five.  But you can't cheat or rush things.  Only one window per day!

"Only one window per day!" Yes, but if I buy 2 or 3 boxes then....

Those are strange looking 1's.

But the overall concept is very good.

LOL That is awesome.

Last week my wife sent me out for milk and I came back with beer.

....and I recommend that, if you live in the Midwest, it be filled with Two Brothers' The Bitter End, an most excellent ale in the manner of an English pub "bitter," and a bottle or two of their Bonfire, a seasonal that has all the flavor and spirit (no pun intended) of an Abbey ale similar to what Luther himself might have drunk.

So those "Got Beer?" PETA ads worked on someone.

Make sure the beer is good - just like Luther would!

I guess it's easier in England though to find beer that isn't feline urine.

I didn't know this was an annual thing. What a fun celebratory idea! Was it your own? Did you save the best for last? I'll have to do this for my husband, but of course it will stay in the garage!

Hey...how about an Advent Cigar Humidor!

That's a very informative article Zrim. I didn't realize beer can help prevent dementia...I'll let my wife know.

We Baptists can participate by substituting that devil juice with some Welch's Grape Juice. :-P

What great idea! BTW, this baptist won't be substituting anything except getting rid of any pale wimpy American beers and replacing them with good hearty dark beers.

Hey alright! Lot's of drinking Baptists here. We should start a club!

Drinking Baptists is why you never invite just one Baptist fishing. You always want to invite at least two of them or they will drink all the beer.

That is a very creative idea. I wish I had thought of it. I guess I have to make a run to the beer store tomorrow, but then I have to catch up on three days. It will be difficult, but I'm sure I can do it.

My pastor brews his own beer, and one of my fellow council members brews award winning beer!
