"Learning Skills 101" -- A New Academy Series

You are invited to join us Friday, August 28 at 7:30 p.m. at Christ Reformed Church in Anaheim when Professor Ken Samples begins his new Academy series entitled “Learning Skills 101: Learning How To Learn (Part 1).”

This will be a great class for parents, home-schoolers, high school and college students, and for anyone who loves to learn!

Here is Ken's course synopsis . . .

Class synopsis: The motto for the United Negro College Fund sends chills up my spine whenever I hear it. Its foreboding yet challenging message declares: “A mind is a terrible thing to waste.” For the Christian, however, the stakes are even higher. A human mind made in the image and likeness of an infinite, eternal, and personal God (Gen. 1:26-27) is a fortiori (Latin: “with greater force,” “all the more”) a terrible thing to waste.

The Study Skills 101: Learning How To Learn class is specifically offered to help believers sharpen their thinking, reading, and speaking skills. This course can be directly helpful to teachers, parents (especially homeschool parents), and students, particularly adult students who want to engage in a lifelong journey of intellectual discovery and learning. This class can serve as a fun and challenging opportunity to clear the mental cobwebs that too often accumulate with the passage of time and age. All educational levels can benefit from the content of this class. Come and learn the enduring insights of famed philosopher and educator Mortimer J. Adler by studying his best selling work How to Read a Book. -- Professor Kenneth Samples.

Our High School is reading Adler's book this year. I can't wait to hear Sample's thoughts.
Thanks for making this possible.

I read that book by Adler about 2 years after my conversion when I was 18. It really got me interested in reading more and when you develope the skills that the book teaches reading becomes a much more profitable and enjoyable experience.

There certainly is a great need for these skills in the culture we live in today.

I heard this class was taught several years ago. I'm glad I can attend this time. Sounds like a helpful course to any Christian who is serious about reading and studying Theology and the Bible. Seeker friendly Church well not understand this, as many don’t even carry a Bible to Church.
