Good stuff! Having grown up in confessional Lutheran churches, I've always wondered where the evangelicals deviated from tradition by moving the choir to the front. I more or less assumed that it began someplace in Europe in conjunction with the anabaptist types. I was surprised to learn that it began with Finney. It figures. I wonder what the members of some of these congregations would think if they realized the source of some of their practices, not to mention the hymns (come to think of it, that's probably a rhetorical thing to say).
