Friday Feature -- The Warthog

There is talk of grounding the A-10 in favor of a newer aircraft.  It will be hard to find any replacement that can deliver a punch like the Warthog can--a 30 mm cannon firing depleted uranium ammunition.

Grissom Air Base was located about 35 miles North of where I used to live in Central Indiana and they used to have an A-10 tactical squadron located there before the whole base became decommissioned and converted to air guard status during some of the military cut backs a decade or two ago. While they were still AF operational I got to know one of the pilots who flew those A-10's. He loved it. They used to practice all sorts of risky tactical ground support maneuvers - flying low across farms, toward and then up and over barns, etc. to sharpen their skills. Quite an interesting aircraft though I understand that the adoption of newer fighters such as the F/A-18 are what did it in.

It took a big hit out of Davis-Monthan AFB here in Tucson. Looking forward to seeing you in Mesa, Pastor Kim.
