Who Said That?

question mark.jpgCan you guess who uttered these rather embarrassing words?

"From my understanding of biblical prophecies, I'm convinced that the Lord is coming for his Church before the end of 1981.  I could be wrong, but its a deep conviction in my heart and all my plans are predicated on that belief.  In 1986, Halley's Comet is coming again.  Jesus said that prior to His return in glory there'd be signs in the heavens.  Halley's Comet could be one of those signs . . ."

As usual, no cheating--google searches or otherwise!  Answer to follow in a few days.

Wow, so many options to choose from...
I'll skip the prophecy teachers and instead go for Rev. Paul Crouch.

JR Church? He use to say that Psalm 81 was the prophecy for 1981 and Psalm 82 was the prophecy for 1982.... etc..

I know the answer is wrong but that who I was thinking when I saw the year.

First name that comes to mind is Chuck Smith, seems to me he set a date around there somewhere. But since you said "embarrassing", I am hoping it wasn't you in a pre- amillennialism stage of your life.

Wait a minute. The Lord was going to come back before the end of 1981. But the 'sign in the heavens' (Halley's Comet) was not to occur until 1986. Aren't the signs supposed to precede the event?

Off topic, I know, but I seem to remember that Halley's in 1986 was a dud--not very visible at all.

I'm not sure I have a better guess than the others mentioned here.
Maybe Morris Cerrulo?

Gotta be Hal Lindsey.

I thought that time line issue was pretty funny. And I know the answer...

Elvis said this before his "death" in 1977. He wanted the world to be distracted so no one would witness his "ascension" to Vegas.

I agree with Greg:

Gots to be Hal Lindsey!

The time line apparently reflects a pre-mil, pre-trib viewpoint. I'm going to stick with Chuck Smith. Any chance of making these "who said thats" multiple choice?

It's for sure Chuck Smith. Being a former missionary and staff member at Calvary Costa Mesa, I can recognize this silliness pretty easily!

Didn't Origen say that...or was it in the Epistle of Barnabas?
