Who Said That?

"The being described in his 5 points is not the God whom you and I acknowledge and adore, the Creator and benevolent governor of the world; but a demon of malignant spirit.  It would be more pardonable to believe in no god at all, than to blaspheme him by the atrocious attributes of Calvin."

You know the drill.  Leave your guess in the comments section below.  Please, no google searches or cheating.  Answer to follow next week.

Charles Finney had (similarly lovely) words for Calvin and Calvinism.

I'm guessing Finney too. He liked to use the word benevolent if I remember correctly. He did not have many good things to say about the Westminster Divines and Jonathan Edwards either. I cannot determine if he was an ego maniac and nut case or just someone who was meticulously consistent in his wrong headed theological beliefs.

I don't have a guess for who it is, but he (or she) is quite sloppy in his research. Even basic research will reveal that the '5 points of Calvinism' are not Calvin's 5 points. Not that Calvin didn't agree with them but that it is anachronistic to argue they come from Calvin in the form we know them.
