Pre-Publication Info on Horton's Theology Text

Mike Horton is a prolific writer. We've been waiting for this one for a long time!

Here's the publisher's blurb (Zondervan):

Michael Horton’s highly anticipated The Christian Faith represents his magnum opus and will be viewed as one of—if not the—most important systematic theologies since Louis Berkhof wrote his in 1932.

A prolific, award-winning author and theologian, Professor Horton views this volume as “doctrine that can be preached, experienced, and lived, as well as understood, clarified, and articulated.” It is written for a growing cast of pilgrims making their way together and will be especially welcomed by professors, pastors, students, and armchair theologians.

Features of this volume include: (1) a brief synopsis of biblical passages that inform a particular doctrine; (2) surveys of past and current theologies with contemporary emphasis on exegetical, philosophical, practical, and theological questions; (3) substantial interaction with various Christian movements within the Protestant, Catholic and Orthodoxy traditions, as well as the hermeneutical issues raised by postmodernity; and (4) charts, sidebars, questions for discussion, and an extensive bibliography, divided into different entry levels and topics.

Michael's "The Christian Faith" will be out in April 2010.  I can't wait!

It's no fun waiting for a new book to come out. I have been anxiously waiting for the new Lutheran study Bible -- due out Oct. 31st.

I don't use a lot of notes in study Bible's, but I will certainly love and use these notes. And, the ESV is great!

Here are a few great quotes from the White Horse Inn. I will paraphrase them as best as I can remember them:

Pastor Kim: Someone called in the show, and wanted to know how he could find God's will in finding a spouse. Pastor Kim told him to... "Just find a Christian, go for common interest's and the best looking one." That is great advice!

Dr. Michael Horton: They just came on the air to do the program, and Dr. Horton asked, "Does everyone have their water?" Dr. Rosenbladt responded, "Speak for yourselves, I have my scotch and water."

Dr. Rosenbladt: "I now know how low that man can go with total depravity. He invented country music." Michael rebuked him and said, "Rod, please be careful, you have just insulted half of our listening audience!"

Great suff!!!

Thanks, Kim.

My introduction to the Reformed Faith was back in 1994, when I heard Michael Horton being interviewed on Craig Hawkins' radio program. He was promoting his book, Putting Amazing Back into Grace. I was struck by two things. First, what he was saying seemed to be exactly what the Bible says. Second, I had never heard any preacher explain it that way before.

I can't wait for this book to come out. I would skip three meals to scrape up the cash to buy it. No! Four meals.

Craig

p.s.(When are you going to come up and preach in Apple Valley?)
