A "Liver-Shiver" from a Pilgrimage to Charles Finney's Grave

Revialist Dutch Sheets recounts a "liver-shiver" upon visiting the grave of America's leading Pelagian, Charles Grandison Finney (h.t. Gary Johnson).

Sheets writes,

Perhaps it was to honor the memory of Finney, a faithful son; or, since awakening and harvest is what Finney so powerfully represents, maybe it was a confirmation that God is, indeed, going to give us another great awakening; and it could have been to remind us that we are part of something bigger than ourselves—that the great cloud of witnesses is watching and cheering us on, knowing fully that we're the continuation of their efforts (Heb. 11:39-12:2). Whatever His reason for choosing this time and place, the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon me. I was re-mantled and re-anointed.

Swell, just what America needs, another "re-mantled" and "re-anointed" follower of Charles Finney leading a revival of Pelgianism.  Part of me is very glad that John Calvin is buried in an unmarked grave.

Sadly, the post you cited looks like a not so subtle nod towards "grave sucking"--the (thoroughly unbiblical) idea that one can pick-up the "anointing" of a dead spiritual leader while visiting their grave. One would think that if this were real, it might have been given a mention or two in scripture. Sigh.

Bethel Church, Redding, CA; IHOP and near us, PiHOP, are driving the "New Apostolic Reformation" NAR, where things have sunk much lower to where they "anoint" young children to "prophesy" "grave suck" (drawing the power from dead saints). Unspeakable blasphemies. Remember the names: John Crowder, Bill Johnson, Larry Giglio and Mike Bickle who uses a rock band to "prophesy" outright occult "Christian" admonitions to huge youth rallies. Flat-out demonic. (A reported 1.2 million was made at a convention of 60,000 youth!)

This video is light weight summary apologetic - but the sad point is clear:

I am grieved for the sake of the children being trained to do this from early age - for the profit of the above mentioned leaders.

"I don't try to communicate with them, which obviously is forbidden in Scripture, nor do I try to receive impartations from them."

And yet...

"I reminded the Holy Spirit of the First and Second Great Awakenings, and appealed to heaven for another.. There *is* a third Great Awakening coming to our land. There *is* another broad and passionate "appeal to heaven" occurring in our land, which will be honored, just as it was when our nation was born. There *is* a re-connecting to the covenants, promises and sacrifices of our forefathers. And there *will* be an answer from Heaven in the form of the greatest outpouring of the Holy Spirit the earth has ever experienced."

Curious how communicating with the dead is clearly out, but no problem with "reminding the HS" of things (yeow) and then going on to speak on his behalf where he hasn't spoken and virtually telling us the future with certainty. Do these people listen to themselves as much as they want others to?

Correction, it's "Louie" Giglio. He uses a legitimate teaching of the Gospel then hooks it to the Holy Spirit speaks directly to you or you're not a Christian. Youth are hugely influenced by him. In the Passion conferences he uses slick tech presentation of (truly) wonderful natural phenomena like the sounds of a pulsar; a whale call and other natural "songs" that praise the Creator, all set to a vacuous praise anthem that hypnotizes the audience into an emotional frenzy. (A non-Trinitarian worship of the Creator.) His many perplexing phrases are all "emergent/gnostic" as he allegorizes Ezekiel 34. Paganism abounds here and John Piper cooperates and works with him. :(

We are way past "bobola shannda" silliness and even the goofy slain spirit antics of Benny Hinn, folks. The visible church is blatantly embracing paganism on the occult level.

I can understand why John MacArthur held the "Strange Fire" conference. We're seeing practices these days that are so evil and dangerous it is stunning to watch and horrendous to engage our loved ones ensnared by them.

The stage craft/production values would make Finney giddy with delight.

The time has come to teach the "ordinary" means of grace. (If only someone would unplug the sound system!)

Only in America do people get given such awful names as Dutch Sheets, Chase Rice, Lake Bell, and Park Overall.

I'm just sayin'.

Isn't there reportedly a picture of Finney in Billy Graham's house? Grave sucking, IHOP, Dutch Sheets, even his name is disturbing.

Matt, if by "home" you mean "The Billy Graham Center," then yes. At least, that's what Horton suggests here:
