Who Said That?

question%20mark.jpgWho Said That?

"We are a people of different faiths, but we are one. Which faith conquers the other is not the question; rather, the question is whether Christianity stands or falls. . . . We tolerate no one in our ranks who attacks the ideas of Christianity . . .in fact our movement is Christian. We are filled with a desire for Catholics and Protestants to discover one another in the deep distress of our own people."

I hadn't thought of Hitler until John's guess, but the remark about the "deep distress of our own people" sure sounds like Hitler to me.

I guess this shows that historically ecumenical movements have had some success.

I would guess one of our contemporary Muslim leaders, clerics, imams, or perhaps an ayatollah.

If it's Hitler, it would be in his early years in the rise to power, since men like Bonhoeffer, and others with the Confessing German Church later on, were not cut much slack for their "ideas of Christianity." But it ought to make us think with more discernment given the use of ecumenical statements on Christianity being used in political stump speeches these days.

As I began to read this I thought of Hugh Hewitt, but Hugh does not speak like this. I also don't think Hugh would say, "We tolerate no one in our ranks who attacks the ideas of Christianity." Seems like a somewhat old quote.
