Keeping Up With the Latest Christian Goodies . . .

tiregauge.jpgFor those of you who miss Marc Heinrich's hilarious blog Purgatorio (remember the tipping cow?--Click here: purgatorio - a panoply of evangelical eccentricities, un-orthodox oddities & christian cultural curiosities), there's a similar blog up and running (h.t. Shane Rosenthal).

You can find it here. Click here: A Little Leaven.

I like to keep up with the latest in Christian gadgets (like the Christian tire gauge, pictured above).  That's probably because my family owned a Christian Bookstore and I grew up with this kind of stuff.

Yes, I have repented . . . countless times . . . Anyway, there is some very funny stuff posted there.

I worked in a Christian Bookstore as a teen and we used to call this kind of merchandise, "Jesus Junk" or "Holy Hardware."
Wow, the link to the before/after photo of Tammy Faye on Larry King is gripping!

Great More Jesus Junk to show that we are Christians. What happened to the old days when you showed that you were a Christian by loving your neighbor, you know Jesus second most important commandment summarizing the Ten Commandments in the Gospels?

It seems today that when we become Christian's we need to get stickers, air fresher for our cars and most of all shirts.

Some of the shirts are ok, but most I could not wear as I like to show that I love Jesus, not wear it on my shirt.

I think if we can love God and our neighbor's as Jesus commands we well be showing our neighbors that we are Christians and they well see it by our example, even though we screw up, they well still see that we are Christians.

All that Jesus junk is a marketing ploy, I wonder if the emerging church has anything to do with it? Purpose driven socks? I think my Wal-Mart socks are just fine thank you, and allot cheaper.

Timinater,

AMEN!

Remember Francis Schaeffer's "The Mark of the Christian?"

As for the "neighbor" side of the love command, Jn. 13:34,35 ... and Rom. 13:8-10; Gal. 5:6,13f; Jas. 2:8 ... and I Jn. 2:7-11; 3:14-18; 4:20,21 is where it's at!

We can kiss all the other (what-will-they-think-of-next?) mindless (but-oh-so-goofy!) junk good-bye!

Thanks!

While A Little Leaven, Tom in the box News Network and other such sites are good, nothing will ever replace purgatorio. The best part was that Marc would just post the stuff and not make any commentary about it in the post whatever, leaving the posters to make the point (and the jokes). It was the only blog where you really had to read the comments!
