Who Said That?

question%20mark.jpgWho said that?

"Christianity will go.  It will vanish and shrink.  I needn't argue with that; I'm right and I will be proved right.  We're more popular than Jesus now; I don't know which will go first — rock and roll or Christianity."

You know the drill.  No google searches!  Leave your guess in the comments section below.

I remember the 60s, and contrary to conventional wisdom, I was there. John Lennon.

Lennon wanted to imagine no possessions??
How was he going to do that with all of his millions he made singing of such silliness founded below?

Although, I will say, I grew up in an era where I find the Beatles were either loved or hated, and strangely looking back, I don't think either was healthy.

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Then there were the Rutles--who said they were bigger than Rod--referring to Rod Stewart, who wouldn't be big for a few more years. (This is from a real Beatles spoof.)

Interesting if it was John Lennon, because the rock n roll he knew seems to have gone away...

I know Christians who actually still like this band and still listen to them and they are reformed Christians!...I guess His call to come out of the world and be separate is to all His children every day of our lives!

Common grace... there's something true about good ol' John Lennon's comments. They WERE more popular than Jesus, in a way, weren't they? Sad to see them defame the name of Christ, but you sure can't disrespect them as musicians.

BTW, I heard from a credible source that John ran into some Reformed missionaries and seemed to exercise belief in the gospel shortly before he died.

The credible source was none other than Dr. Peter Jones of WSC fame.
