"Jesus Is My Friend"

This video is making the rounds (h.t. Jene James). You must see it to believe it!  A perfect marriage of pop rock and Pelagianism!

There are metal (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FfzvJmWln8) and chipmunk (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAG-JVDJPd0) parodies as well--although its hard to parody a parody.

Here's yet another reason why I don't miss the evangelical subculture of my youth.

I'm still laughing!

Actually, the lead singer looks like a young Mormon -- Donny Osmond.

I find the chipmunked version quite a bit more tolerable than the orginial.

That is painful to watch. I was looking at the Gibson Les Paul more than anything else.

That is as bad as this ode to free will

The way that bass player swings his hips, he would have been banned from the Ed Sullivan Show back in the sixties.

That bassist is way too into it. . .

The metal rock version is a gut splitter.

There was a lot of silly stuff, and still is, coming from the Christian subculture, but some of it became such a part of my warp and woof that I sometimes feel a little sad without it. Connections were forged through sentimental music, and it was fun to start parenting life off with the idea of raising them in the same "on fire" setting. I went and desired the "old paths". I'm still adjusting, but not regretting;-) P.S. I don't miss Sonseed;in fact never heard of them. I do miss Keaggy, Taft, Mullins, Ortega, Stonehill, and a few others though;-)

"Jesus is like a Mountie - always gets His man!" I didn't realize these folks were Calvinists! Hilarious video. It reminds me of my first 'Christian album" (given to me for my 13th birthday) - The Imperials, 'Heed the Call'. I'm sure it's around here somewhere.

"He is like a Mountie, He always gets his man!...lol. I have to ask...Kim is that a relative of yours in the backup group?

I have never seen anything like this. Was this supposed to be presented as a real witness to the "gospel"?

If they would swing there hips less, and button up their shirts more, but mostly change the words!, it could be mightily improved.

I visited a church once where there was a similar praise band, but made up of people in their seventies. The music was orthodox, but it was a bit uncomfortable watching them pretend to be teenagers.

Here is a little background on the band:

You do realize this was an early Roman Catholic attempt at breaking into the contemporary Christian music scene - don't you?

Why did you do this to me? Now I can't get that stupid song out of my head.

And when will we see the next videoblog from you?

There is a remake of this song by David Crowder...equally bad

I would rather be a Neitzchean atheist than caught amongst these types. Bill Maher and the aggressive new atheists at least use their heads.

The lyrics are priceless.

Jesus is my friend.
Jesus is a friend of mine.
I have a friend in Jesus.
Jesus is a friend of mine.
Jesus is my friend.
Jesus is a friend of mine.

He taught me how to live, my life as it should be.
He taught me how to turn my cheek when people laugh at me.
I've had friends before, and I can tell you that, He's one who will never leave you flat.

Jesus is a friend of mine.
Jesus is my friend.
Jesus is a friend of mine.
I have a friend in Jesus.
Jesus is a friend of mine.
Jesus is my friend.
Jesus is a friend of mine.

He taught me how to pray, and how to save my soul.
He taught me how to praise my God and still play rock and roll.
The music may sound different but the message is the same.
It's just the instruments who praise His name.

Jesus is a friend of mine.
Jesus is my friend.
Jesus is a friend of mine.
I have a friend in Jesus.
Jesus is a friend of mine.
Jesus is a friend of mine.
Jesus is a friend of mine.
Jesus is a friend of mine.
Jesus is a friend of mine.

Once I tried to run, I tried to run and hide.
But Jesus came and found me and He touched me down inside.
He is like mountie, He always gets His man, and He'll zap you any way he can.
Zap.

Jesus is a friend of mine.
Jesus is my friend.
Jesus is a friend of mine.
I have a friend in Jesus.
Jesus is a friend of mine.
Jesus is my friend.
Jesus is a friend of mine.

He loves me when I'm right, He loves me when I'm wrong.
He loves me when I waste my time by writing silly songs.
He loves me when I'm quiet and I have nothing to say.
He'll love me when I'm perfect if I ever get that way.
Whooo!

Jesus is a friend of mine.
Jesus is my friend.
Jesus is a friend of mine.
I have a friend in Jesus.
Jesus is a friend of mine.
Jesus is my friend.
Jesus is a friend of mine.
I have a friend in Jesus.
Jesus is a friend of mine.
J-J-J-Jesus.
Jesus is a friend of mine.

I checked out the link above for Sonseed, and I read the next comment--which shows up in the link--they were from a Catholic Church- the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help.

Which reminded me of a local RC church-also called Our Lady of Perpetual Help. One day I was going by it on my way somewhere--and I noticed the last "P" had fallen off their sign--thus making the church-Our Lady of Perpetual Hel. I was amused.

They reminded me of some old cast members that were expelled from the Lawrence Welk show 30 years ago.
