Harold Camping and Yet Another Sign of the End
Friday, March 18, 2011 at 01:55PM
Rev. Chris Gordon, pastor of the URC in Lyndon WA, is publishing a series on the sad history of Harold Camping and his preoccupation with date setting (h.t. Scott Clark). Very helpful stuff.
You can find the essay here: The sad history of Harold Camping
In what must be a sure sign that the end of the age is upon us, a gang of feral cats "the size of dogs" is terrorizing a suburb of Brisbane, Australia.
Can you imagine what will happen if airborne nuclear radiation from the damaged reactor causes further mutation in these creatures? I do not understand why Camping cannot see the obvious--some prophecy expert he is! Here's the story (Giant Cats Attack!)

Hearing him dialog with callers about his predictions was eerie.
He described "God's judgment" traveling gradually from place to place (beginning in New Zealand) so as to follow the progress of the day/May 21 as the earth turned. This because it's not May 21st all at once on earth.
Truly he has a dizzying intellect.
It is the nature of God to reveal the time of judgment in advance: Noah (Genesis 7:4), Lot (Genesis 19:22), Pharaoh (Exodus 9:5, 10:4), Moses and the Israelites (Exodus 11:4-5), and Nineveh (Jonah 3:4).
If you think Christ comes as a thief in the night, then you will be caught by surprise. However, the elect will not be caught by surprise:
1 Thessalonians 5:4-5
4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
Read Revelation 3:3 very carefully:
Revelation 3:3
Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.
The elect will watch. Therefore, Christ will not come as a thief and they will know what hour He comes upon us all.
You mention on another post on this website that I "seem to be making assumptions about our premil brothers' views on other issues that sound a little smug/condescending & uncharitable" because I point out the heterodox doctrine that they endorse.
Yet, on the post above you state Harold Camping "looks like Mr. Burns of the Simpsons." Oh, to use your own words, "how smug/condescending & uncharitable" you are.
You pick and choose how you judge the criticism of others when they point out heterodox teachings, (which we are commanded to do) but, you can take pot shots at Harold Camping. You judge very hypocritically (Matt. 7:1 & 2). Why don't you hold yourself to your own standard?
By the way, Harold Camping is a false teacher. And, he should be pointed out as such.
I was simply making a factual observation, not a substantive judgment-much as Mr. Camping may deserve it. There was nothing more to my comment than the physical resemblance I alluded to.

You are very confused as to what a factual observation is. Mr. Camping looking like Mr. Burns of the Simpsons is an opinion--not a fact.
Your liking him to Mr. Burns of the Simpsons is not very "edifying" (another term that you like to sling at folks that don't agree with you).
Don't try to come off that you were just trying to make an observation and that is all. Your opinion that Mr. Camping looks like Mr. Burns of the Simpsons was not intended to be a compliment to Mr. Camping, and you know it.
In fact, according to your self righteous standards, it was down right "smug/condescending and uncharitable" to talk about a "brother" like that.
Harold Camping is a heretic. That is not an opinion. The Word of God judges him as such. That is a fact.

2 Thessalonians 2:3
Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
Apostasy in truest sense.
Matthew 24:12
And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
Not when it comes to violating Scripture
Matthew 5:43-44
43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
1 Corinthians 13:13
And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
