Paul & James on Justification

Paul in Romans 4 says that “the one who does not work but trusts in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness.” Yet we also read in James 2:24 that “a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.” Do Paul and James contradict each other in the matter of justification? How are these two passages to be reconciled? That’s the focus of this edition of White Horse Inn.

Did She Have an Inkling?

So, when TV's most (in)famous psychic dies, I have a couple of questions.

Did she know she would get cancer?  Did she know when she would die?  Any inkling?  I'll bet she didn't go to her doctor and tell him, "I'm getting cancer on July 1, so let us start treatments now!"

Did she party and spend all her money before the inevitable?  People who do what "Miss Cleo" does for a living generally are not struggling to pay their mortgage.

When obvious frauds like this die, I have two initial reactions.  The first is anger at the deception involved, followed by sadness about the gullibility of those folks who were so desperate as to send her money.  The whole "psychic hotline" thing is self-evidently a crock . . .  How come those who go to psychics don't ask about which horse to bet on, or which stock to buy?  Well, maybe they do . . .  I wouldn't know.

My other reaction other is, "may God have mercy upon her soul."

The Great Exchange in the Old Testament

In Isaiah chapter 53 we read that the coming messiah will be despised and rejected by men. He will be pierced for our transgressions, and punished so that we may have peace. Through his anguish, God will make many to be accounted righteous. On this program the hosts are continuing to explore The Great Exchange in the promises of the Old Testament.

Looking for a "Christian Themed" Vacation Destination This Summer?

How about this image of Jesus walking on water outside the Museum of Religious Arts in Logan, Iowa?  And there are plenty more!

Sadly, this is one of the least tacky examples from a recent photo essay from the Washington PostAmerica's Christian Entertainment Destinations

The Great Exchange in the Old Testament (Part 1)

In order to fully appreciate God’s grace to us in Christ, we first need to understand the seriousness of man’s fall, and the depth of our sin. Once we have grasped this, then we should focus our attention on unfolding God’s promise to provide a coming redeemer and advocate which he announced throughout the Old Testament prophets. On this program the hosts begin their tour of these messianic promises as they continue their series on The Great Exchange.
